It sounds absolutely perverse, and yet it is the dark reality I find myself in. I became conscious of this only recently in myself and it is an absolutely horrific discovery. Is this the way everyone else feels, or am I unique in this regard? I am absolutely certain there are others who feel a similar way. I still can’t process my discovery…
This is not something to be processed as much as to be outgrown. It is the vestige of our animal past that has grown through the acute struggle for survival where fear, aggression, suspicious caution predominates. With the further evolution this mind is replaced by the human and further into higher and higher levels of mind. The solution lies in conscious evolution of the mind and all else.
The path towards this change from our present largely animal state to the human and further beyond is what yoga is about. Start by reading uplifting words, be in the company of good and beautiful people, avoid the company of those full of fears, think and meditate upon Truth and Beauty and Light, turn towards the Divine and slowly the mind will evolve and outgrow these tendencies. The less we think about ourself in terms of our base desires, the more we think of what we aspire to be, the faster we evolve and outgrow this state.
