AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

I want to know if it is necessary to get married in life? If I don’t follow what my family says, is it wrong or right? 🤨

If we look into the teachings of the wise, including our own scriptures, it is clear that it is not parents, teachers, elders, etc, whom we are supposed to listen to, but to the little voice within our heart where dharma dwells. The mind and reason can justify any standpoint, but the deeper heart does not lie. Try to make your mind quiet and then listen to your inmost heart behind the surface emotions and desires. Listen to this deeper self in the heart and follow its guidance, unique to you. In fact, what may be good for one may not be good for another, and vice versa. See what your deepest truth feels and suggests.

As to marriage, it is not something on which too much thought should be given as if it were a major important thing in life. Its only importance is that it teaches us a few things, especially to extend oneself and one’s interests beyond our own little pleasures and happiness. Of course, a good partner who shares your goals and highest aspirations can be a great help, but it is very rare and often comes with a very heavy price. It is best not to rush into it and wait till there is clarity about the goal and the path. All the rest, including marriage, must be aligned with it.

Affectionately,

Alok Da

Follow-up question:

But what should I do if my family forces me? The desire to get married within me is gradually diminishing (that’s what I feel).

You must do what you believe is the best and true. Leave the rest for God and destiny to take care of.

By the Grace of my Mother, I have come to know Her a little bit. I want to spend my entire life serving Her. Is that possible?

Everything is possible by Her Grace. Pray and aspire.

Affectionately,

Alok Da

he Grace is equally for all but since the sadhaks are more open and receptive as well as more prone to attacks, especially when a sadhak has surrendered oneself to the Divine, then quite naturally a special Grace accompanies….

Attachments, expectations, wanting to be the closest are all natural in human love.
