AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

Dear sir, my friend once called Tulsidas ji casteist and quoted✍️🏹📜📿

पूजहि विप्र सकल गुण हीना ।

शूद्र न पूजहु वेद प्रवीणा ।।

I did not engage and stayed calm, sensing his hatred. Later I reflected with Sri Aurobindo’s psycho-spiritual lens. Vipra ,from vip, to be stirred, inspired , one moved by the divine. Sudra ,from suc, to grieve, be afflicted, one shaken by outer pleasure and pain. So Tulsidas teaches , revere inner awakening, not book-learning.

Thanks to Alok-da’s talks, Sri Aurobindo’s teaching, and the Mother’s love, I stayed clear of empty debate.

Vipra is someone who has a clear consciousness, he is a person who has received mental illumination. Such a person is to be revered even if he is devoid of outer qualities. Shudra is someone living largely in the physical consciousness. Such a person is not the object of reverence even if he has learned the Scriptures.

Every yogi has said that in one form or another including Kabir, Guru Nanak and Sri Ramakrishna. So your inspiration is quite right.

Affectionately,

Alok Da
