No need to turn away from anything. Selfishness has nothing to do with achievements and ambition. The danger of ambition is pride and vanity or fears and anxieties. But if you take the right attitude, of progress, of everything belonging to Her then nothing can harm.
Turn ambition into the pursuit of excellence and perfection in whatever you do.
Turn work into worship of the Divine Mother.
Take all achievements as Her blessing and use them for Her service.
Remember and offer to the Divine Mother all you are and do and become.
