Your decision to help or not to help should not be based on the owner’s approach towards the company but on factors personal to you. What you need to see is whether you have the time and the bandwidth to help, given your commitments and responsibilities with the new work you would have undertaken. That should be your priority now as well as the family. Generally it is difficult to manage two jobs even if from home. Perhaps it may be best for you to communicate your limitations of time and provide some conditional help for a couple of months while they look for an alternative.
