Since the Puranas speak of these places as being immensely sacred and spiritually significant, I was wondering how someone walking the path of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother should approach such experiences and hold these places inwardly.
These places were, at one point in time, powerful spots. Yogis often visited and lived there, far from the maddening crowd and engaged in tapasya. But as the Age changed from Dwapara to Kaliyuga, their influence has become progressively less and less and now, as we are transiting towards another new Age, the Age of Truth, the new Satyuga, they have completely lost their importance and significance. Of course, faith and miracles is a different matter, but generally the Divine Power has withdrawn or is withdrawing from many of these places. New powerful spots are emerging to facilitate the new age and the new creation. Therefore, these places are slowly undergoing a degeneration and are being occupied by forces even contrary to the spiritual life. Priests are also no more genuine and there is little point in visiting them in our times. In Satyuga, the Divine has to be found seated within the temple of the heart.
Affectionately,
Alok Da
