AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

I remember once reading in Sri Aurobindo’s commentary on the Isha Upanishad that one cannot become a Brahmin without first becoming a Kshatriya. I believe that I never had the Kshatriya element developed sufficiently within me, and it has always been a source of embarrassment and insecurity for me as a man. 💪🙏🏻🪷[…]

However, it is something I aspire to develop in order to reclaim self-respect and confidence. Will you please suggest some practical steps? I have heard many philosophical answers, but I always prefer to have some very concrete and measurable steps I can take to achieve my goals.

He said both are needed. But these are things ingrained within us. Brahmin and Kshatriya are not soul states, inner innate temperaments and not so much of outer actions. Nevertheless, everything can be developed by practice. By taking the challenges of life, through vigorous physical exercises, by praying for strength, by reading the life of great warriors- in fact, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata and other heroic stories- by mantras that give courage and strength especially the mantras of Shiva, Durga Maa, the Kshatriya element can surely develop. Do Hanuman Chalisa every day and read the Durga Saptashati once a week.

Affectionately,

Alok Da

Rituals and techniques are not purely …

In the Srimad Bhagavatam (10.88.8), Sri Krishna states that when He especially favors someone, He gradually takes away their material wealth and worldly support. In all mystic traditions, money has been generally regarded, not only as a bondage, but even as a curse. It ties the consciousness to very gross material pleasures. These weigh down the soul and makes the intelligence rather dull to subtler and spiritual things.
