AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

What physical exercises do you recommend best suited for yoga? My father insists on joining gym💪. Is it right?

The physical exercises should be chosen according to one’s inbuilt stamina, the physique and the purpose for which one wants to undertake them.

If one has been doing physical exercises since childhood then one has to slowly increase the capacity in whatever type of exercise one has been accustomed to. One cannot start gymming randomly. It is a graded process, to be planned methodically in a scientific manner. Its purpose is an increase in physical strength and a general tonic up of the muscles to look good.

If it is for gaining stamina then playing some active sport and doing deep breathing exercises is best.

For maintaining health a good combination can be daily brisk walks for about 4 to 5 km in an hour along with asanas and stretches for about half an hour to 45 minutes.

Whatever one does it should be done consciously with an aspiration to help the body open up and grow conscious of the Divine Presence within it.

Affectionately,

Alok Da
