Can ancestors really have such an influence on us? Do they truly have the power to create obstacles in our progress? Kindly give your opinion on this.
I always had the impression that what is regarded as trouble and disturbance from the ancestors is basically an attack from the forces of the vital world and elemental energies. The soul of Ancestors obviously has passed on, but sometimes fragments of the disintegrated vital sheath with certain undissolved negative energies can remain near the Earth’s atmosphere. These energies seek peace and shelter and in that process may come in contact with the family members if they are open to these energies. Though they come to seek peace, they can create disturbance in health. It is, however, unlikely that they can obstruct your job or change destiny that you have earned through your deeds and actions.

Is it appropriate to keep their photo in the puja room?
Better avoided. It is never a good idea to keep the photos of those who have departed. It creates an earthward pull upon their vital and, if something of them is still lingering, it opens doors to all kinds of influences.
