I am guessing that some strong evil group of people started to spread around this virus and as people realised that it was fatal, there formed a strong fear in the environment/nature which formed again a similar cloud which Mother mentioned and we all eventually caught it. What do you think?
There is a cyclic aspect in the movement of Time and forces and tendencies do try to repeat themselves taking advantage of this cyclic movement. Behind all such events, behind the immediate (the virus) and intermediary cause (the forces of disintegration in the vital world) there are much larger players, the fortresses of evil where the sons of Darkness sit and plan wicked deeds to delay man’s progress though they often, paradoxically, end up hastening it.
Here are few lines from Savitri that point towards the bigger actors involved in Covid, that use the forces of lust for power, fear and greed, to perpetuate evil.

Opponents of the Highest they have come

To darken their privilege is and dreadful right.
None can reach heaven who has not passed through hell.’
