There is a line in Savitri, Canto3:The Yoga of the Soul’s Release….”The Original Desire born in the Void Peered out…”I would like to know, what is this Original Desire? What do we originally desire for?πŸ•ŠοΈπŸ€πŸ“œβ™ΎοΈ

The ‘original desire’ refers to the phrase in the Rigveda as well as in Buddha’s statement about the origin of creation. As there are no objects to want or desire at that point, the only desire would be for the ‘subject’ that is to say, the Divine Consciousness, to manifest Itself, as any creative artist expresses himself through his creations. The original desire is the Impulsion of the Divine towards Creation, which is His own Self-projection or Self-manifestation in terms of Time and Space. The purpose of this is Delight, the multiplication of the delight of the One into the delight of multiplicity, the sole purpose of any creative Impulsion.

In us too it is the same ‘desire’, to multiply delight,  but in ignorance it takes the form of desire with the mixed results of pleasure, pain and indifference.

Affectionately,

Alok Da
