It comes automatically as we grow in consciousness and the subconscient parts get cleared more and more. But effort can be made from our side by remembering the Divine Presence in our heart before sleeping and by putting a will to be more and more conscious during the sleep.
On waking up one should try to remember the dream quietly before getting out of the bed.
Eating light dinner and allowing sufficient time between the night meal and sleep is of course helpful, otherwise it makes the energies enter into tamasic mode and sleep becomes heavy and largely unconscious.
