AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

Sir, I feel that I lack listening skills. When I listen to others, I often find it hard to concentrate, and even if I do, I forget what they said almost immediately. Sometimes, I also don’t understand what they really mean. Why this is happening? What is the core problem? What should I follow to make this better?👂⏳🧠

When I practice speaking, like for interviews, I read and try to understand the answers beforehand. But when I actually speak, everything I studied goes blank. It takes time to recall the answers, and even then, I keep thinking too much before I can explain. I feel like my mind doesn’t work fast enough. I also wonder if it’s because of language—when I speak in English, I put pressure on myself, and that makes it harder to concentrate or think clearly.

I don’t know why I forget things or why it takes time for my answers to “load”. I worry about how I will handle interviews or group discussions if this keeps happening.

What solution I should implement? please let me know sir.

It is because you are trying to be  something which you are not meant for. It doesn’t come naturally to you. You need to discover what is your true nature, Swadharma. Your heart is beautiful and the spirit of service is in you. It is your strength, the qualities that set you apart from others and are like access code to your success. On the other hand languages are not your forte. And while it is always good to learn languages, you should not let your inner confidence and capacity be defined or  undermined by this one thing. It is alright if you take a little more time to learn it. However the best way to develop mental concentration is to read good books. Read Sri Aurobindo and other Swami Vivekananda, few other good authors and both concentration and language will improve. When you speak with someone imagine that you are speaking to the Divine who is All-Compassionate. Offer your interviews to the Mother and pray that She speaks through you.

Affectionately,

Alok Da
