AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

Greetings, Dada. I want to ask a common and perhaps silly question today. We often get hurt when someone repeatedly takes advantage of us. They get their work done by us, but the same person always deceives us, even though we are always there for them in every problem. 😥🌹🦋✨[…]

All these thoughts run through my mind when my close friends behave this way toward me. I feel a pain in my heart. But my mind knows that we have to be like a mother. Mother is the source of everything for us, like love, light, and peace.

Even after knowing this, why does it hurt so much when our close friends or family members deceive us? If we feel bad about this repeatedly, then why do we still do the same things? Why do we think we are here only to give and won’t receive anything from anyone?

All this is in my mind, but why does everything turn out the opposite in reality? Why do we feel so hurt? How can we protect ourselves from someone’s deceit and treachery? I want to understand this topic in depth. Will you help me?

This happens because there are several parts in us, each with different degrees of development. Usually, it is a part of the mind that understands, but the heart follows its own way of attachment. Unless the tendency of attachment changes into love and compassion, this difficulty continues. In fact, it is through these experiences rather than mental explanations that the heart understands that it is only the Divine in whom we find the joy of true love. And the more our heart grows in Devotion and consecration to the Divine and His Work, the more we begin to truly love others as the Divine loves, without attachment or desires or expectations. It is thinking of the Divine, serving the Divine, love and attachment to the Divine that frees us from all other attachments and the suffering that follows. It takes time to understand this by the heart that to have expectations is to make oneself vulnerable and open doors to suffering.

Affectionately,

Alok Da

There is evidently a vital attraction which is very different from love. It usually wears off with time unless there is a strong deep affinity of goals, ideas and interests.

Marraige is a different matter. It requires a deep commitment which can come only if there is some glimmer of true love or else strong earthly bonds of family, habits, customs, language etc. Besides, long distance relationship is very different from living together in close physical proximity.
