AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

Dada, we are group of three friends (3 girls) living in different states. All three are followers of The Mother & Sri Aurobindo and discuss about our Masters and Spirituality quite often. Now, collectively we have discussed to read a particular book and discuss about it during weekends. But our interests in books are quiet different, so we cannot make a good decision regarding what to read. Dada can you please suggest a particular book of The Mother & Sri Aurobindo to begin with?πŸ“–πŸ“šπŸ“œβœ¨

Read a book that is simple and practical. My personal suggestion would be to start with a Prayer from the Prayers and Meditations of The Mother. Next, read a few passages from The Mother’s Collected Works starting from Volume 3 (Questions and Answers 1929 to 1931) followed by a passage from one of Sri Aurobindo’s works such as The Foundations of Indian Culture or The Synthesis of Yoga. Then close with a few lines of Savitri.

Raise a question or two and try to reach out for the answer. You can also write to me if you wish.

Another way is to pick up a subject and each one picks up the suitable passages from the writings, shares them earlier and then discusses once a week.

See which one works for you.

Affectionately,

Alok Da

Dada, there is a professor at IISC who is a sadhaka in the sampradaya of Madhvacharya, and he says that, according to him, the way to find your Swadharma is to do what you can persistently despite failure. I want to ask, is this a good way of practically knowing, or is it too reductionist? And according to you, what can be the best practical way for a young child?πŸ§’πŸ“šβœ¨πŸŒ±

That is one way of looking at it. But a slightly negative and outer way of looking at it. There are plenty of things we do which do not involve success or failure. We do it because we find a natural joy in it. This spontaneous joy …

Is drinking small quantities of alcohol really that bad? Most people I know consume alcohol in some measure. I noticed that the ones who quit it completely face backlash from Society. For example, I heard business people say that you can’t trust a person who doesn’t drink. πŸ₯‚πŸ’¬πŸΈπŸŽΆ[…]

It is not a question of good or bad from a moral point of view. But drinking alcohol is certainly harmful for the physical, as well as psychological and I would even say spiritual health. The list of physical problems is too long and generally too well known to elucidate. …

Yesterday suddenly realised during my prayer with my mother that the seat of the Psychic Being is Highar Vital, in the Hridaya Chakra. Initially, I feel Peace, Bliss and Delight up to the Vishudhi Centre. Suddenly realised that my heart has received The Mother’s Peace and is spreading to all the centre of my all the inner parts and similar to the mother light also. Suddenly feel that the heart centre is doing everything. Alok da, is our Sadhana going in the right direction? Please guide me. πŸͺ·βœ¨πŸ’–πŸ•―️

Yes absolutely, the psychic being is behind the heart centre and when open and in the front then all becomes easy and natural.Β
Your prayer is a beautiful psychic prayer and the yoga going in the right direction.
