Sometimes I am so frustrated, always thinking of ending my life. Time and situations are also not changing for us. Sometimes, if a positive situation comes and then again after some time, it will be changed to a negative outcome. Is it true that one who follows the path of Sri Aurobindo and Mother faces so much difficulty and they never enjoys happiness?
The Mother and Sri Aurobindo have opened for us the sunlit path, which is a path of peace and joy. It is when we do not follow the teachings and continue leading our lives in the old way that the difficulties come.
Each of us has our own set of difficulties. If we wait for others to change, then we may have to wait forever. We have to change within, but not to suit anyone else but to be our own highest self. The more we live by our own highest truth, the happier we are. The more we live for satisfying others, the more unhappy we become. Trying to satisfy others or make them happy is never part of any spiritual path, let alone Sri Aurobindo and The Mother. It is not enough to believe that one is following the path; one must live the teachings. And to live the teachings, we must first know what They have said. In fact, if one is truly following the path, there would be no negative thoughts. One would immediately reject them rather than justifying or blaming others for it. Following the path means that one is living for the Divine and not for satisfying others. Feelings such as you mention do not come because one is following the path but because one is moved by the ego and attachments, things that are contrary to the Path.
Blows do not come because there is something bad in us or because others are bad. They come because we are attached to things that are transient and cannot last. In the process, we forget the true goal. Then blows come as a reminder that we are straying away from the path. Take the right attitude, cultivate sincerity and all these difficulties will disappear.
Affectionately
Alok Da
