AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

What do we mean by “there was a calling to …” to visit a place or to be in Pondicherry, in the ashram? What is this calling? How does it feel when one experiences such a thing? And when people say “Mata ne bolaya hai” or “Bolenath ne bolaya hai”, how true is it? In essence, do gods really call people to visit them? 🪷🙏🏻

Call simply means an inner urge, an impulsion, the awakening of the will or a strong feeling to do something, say to visit a special place or, in Sri Aurobindo’s context, take up the Yoga.

It basically means that it is the Divine who first calls the soul to him and then the soul feels the aspiration for the Divine. Even when someone believes that first the aspiration, seeking or longing for the Divine awakens, the secret truth is that it is the Divine who actually awakens us and turns our consciousness towards Him first. The effect is the awakening of the aspiration within us. As Sri Aurobindo reveals in The Synthesis of Yoga, thus.

‘He who chooses the Infinite has been chosen by the Infinite. He has received the divine touch without which there is no awakening, no opening of the spirit; but once it is received, attainment is sure, whether conquered swiftly in the course of one human life or pursued patiently through many stadia of the cycle of existence in the manifested universe.’

It is quite possible what you say. The simplest way to prepare the brain is by reading Sri Aurobindo. Similarly the simplest way to prepare the heart and awaken the soul is reading and meditating upon Prayers and Meditations as well as Savitri….
