AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

The Puranas place great emphasis on Naam Jaap. How is this understood on the path of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother? Is there a similar practice or a different way of approaching remembrance of the Divine? 📿🙏🏻

Sri Aurobindo and The Mother both spoke of Nam Japa (of The Mother’s Name and Sri Aurobindo’s) as a powerful means in the integral yoga. But since it is the yoga of transformation and not just liberation, Nam Jap alone is not enough. The core inner processes that must accompany any outer method, including Meditation, Bhakti, Karma, Namjapa, are Aspiration, Rejection, Surrender, along with faith and sincerity. The one most important key that Sri Aurobindo gave is psychic opening to the Divine Mother (with the psychic attitude). But as a practice, Namjapa, along with offering of all we think, are and do is a very helpful practice. The Mother called it as ‘Remember and Offer’.

Affectionately,
