AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

I have a question regarding the psychic entity and the psychic being. My confusion is: Who am I in my deepest truth? Am I the psychic entity (the soul), or am I the psychic being? If I am essentially the psychic entity, why is the practice in Integral Yoga to identify with and bring forward the psychic being rather than the psychic entity? 🕯️🌱 […]

Sri Aurobindo and the Mother say that the psychic entity is the eternal soul, while the psychic being is its evolving personality through many lifetimes. Could you kindly explain this distinction and why the psychic being is so central to the sadhana?

In your deepest truth, you are the Divine. It is true of everybody. But for the sake of the play, for the joy of the play, for the delight of the play, the Divine puts forth a little portion of itself and implants it in the cosmos as a seed is planted in the soil. This seed, an eternal portion of the Divine, is immortal and embodies the Divine possibilities within itself. As it passes through the cycle of rebirth, it begins to grow, evolve, bring out these Divine possibilities until one day it manifests its divinity fully. Then it is called as the psychic being. The psychic entity is the undeveloped seed, while the psychic being is its fully developed version.

Now, one can always abandon the process and finding the soul in its half-developed state, return back to the Divine Origin. It is like quitting the game halfway through and discover personal mukti. Others trust the Divine Wisdom that works in creation towards perfecting individual and collective life and choose to complete the full cycle of evolution and fulfill the original Divine Will that has gone into creation. Whether one will choose this or the other destiny is a freedom allowed to each soul after it reaches a certain point of development. Some choose the door of individual escape; others complete the full development and aspire for a collective Divine Life upon earth. It depends upon the core aspiration in each person.

Affectionately,

Alok Da

This happens because somewhere within we want to control the situations. That is not given to us. What is given to us is action and not the result.

Taking the Divine Name helps but so long as the full faith and surrender is not there, these inner reactions will be there. Ask the Mother to give true faith for if one has done what one could do and left the rest in the hands of the Divine then there is no reason for worry. After all there are so many things, so many factors we cannot control, so many unseen forces we cannot fathom. The only way is to have faith that all will be well….

For the cultivation of the physical, I can understand that it can be developed through vigorous physical exercise and being careful with diet and with the spread of gym culture, many youth today are getting into this. The Mother describes how to develop and cultivate these different elements, – physical, vital, mental, psychic and spiritual. The physical does not develop only through exercise and food but also sleep and work. So too the mind does not develop only through reading and concentration. There is also speech and mastery of thought and self observation. So too the vital which is the source of energy develops through the practice of breath mastery, ..

In the verse “Mana krama bachana chhadi chaturai, bhajata kripa karihahin Raghurai,” Goswami Tulsidas appears to set two essential prerequisites for receiving Sri Rama’s grace: completely surrendering the cleverness (chaturai) of mind, speech, and action, and actively engaging in bhajan.🙏🏻🎶 […]

Chaturai or cleverness means trying to act smart with God as if one can fool or trick Him in your favor. Bhajan literally means to take joy in God, in His Name and exploits.
