AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

Alok da, I need your guidance in my personal life because I can’t understand what to do. I am 36 years old. I have 1 girl child 9 year old. I left my job (Asst. Prof in Civil Eng.) after marriage. For the past 4 years, I have been confused about what to do in daily life. 👩🏼👩🏼‍🍼🌼🍂[…]

Parents are insisting on a second baby from both ends. I ignored them, but my child always wants a sibling. What should I do? Should I, as a homemaker, stay at home (calling Maa) doing my work, as there is no one to look after my child, OR return to my profession, or go for a second child? Which one will be good for me according to Maa’s blessings?

A homemaker is fine and good, but a woman’s life cannot be confined to the home, nor should her role be limited to bringing up children. This is neither in tune with the demands of our Age nor with our own ancient culture, where women participated in everything, including philosophical discourses, Vedic writings to battle and war and Sciences. Our Saraswati and Durga are examples of the feminine power in different spheres. So whether you have another child or not is a choice only you or mothers have the right to make, but you must work and earn independently. Apart from giving you the necessary economic freedom, it will allow you scope for inner development through expression in outer fields connected to your education and temperament. After all, man or woman are not here simply to have family and children but to grow and progress towards realising our higher possibilities. Work is important for that, a work that is consistent with the truth of our inner nature, and not imposed by outer circumstances or family, etc.

Affectionately

Alok Da
