AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

Dear Alokda, I was deeply close to my grandmother, but living abroad, I could not be physically present when she passed away two years ago. I recently learned that during her final three days, she repeated my name continuously, like a japa, until her departure.🕯️💗🙏[…]

While I trust the Mother’s care and guidance in her transition, this lingering regret weighs on me. Could you please help me understand the spiritual significance of her calling my name at the end, so I can find clarity and inner peace?

It means that she was quite attached to you. I am sure something of her must have come in contact with you even though you were physically away. In a way, being away from our loved one actually facilitates our departure and makes it relatively easier. It is the strong bond of attachment that binds us close. Remember how King Dasharatha died with the name of Rama on his lips and how Sri Aurobindo’s father died with Sri Aurobindo’s name on his lips, as in both instances they were away. I don’t see why one should feel guilty unless one is omniscient and knows everything that will happen. And perhaps even if we were, we would still choose not to let the loved ones be tied with strings of attachment and make the departure painful.

Yes, you did the perfect thing, just the thing needed by offering her to the Mother. It is the best things to be done always and in all circumstances.

Affectionately,

Alok Da

Seeing dead relatives generally means coming in contact with things buried in the subconscious mind. It could be fears, perceived needs, unhappy relationships. It has nothing to do with the actually dead. They have surely moved on.

Quite a few conventions are broken by the Mother and Sri Aurobindo. 1. The Mother appearing on the right side of Sri Aurobindo. Traditionally, Divine Mother’s aspects appear on the left of the Purusha (ex: Sita, Lakshmi, Parvathi). 2. Anti-clockwise climbing of stairs inside the Matri Mandir. 🌅🪷 […]

It is a complete freedom from the past, from the world as organised by the gods. This clean slate is needed to make a clear ground for the New Creation.

The release from the conventions is the release from the laws and norms of the old creation. It is akin to the story of Daksha Prajapati whose laws and norms are overturned by Shiva and the sacrifice of Mata Sati….
