Homosexuality (and its other aspect Lesbianism) have been known and accepted in ancient Greek as well as Hindu Society. It was considered a taboo, rather sinful mainly in the Islamic and Christian world. However these taboos didn’t prevent it from being secretly indulged. The only thing that this secret indulgence created was the sense of sin and guilt and later, even illegal. Basically it is a question of gender orientation difficulty wherein the psychological gender is different from the physical. One can go deeper into its reasons but it is certainly neither shocking nor sinful. All that we can say is it is not uncommon in primates, even in mammals such as dolphins and lions. Perhaps the reason behind it is primarily the chances of better bonding between the same gender. There is also the possibility of a mismatch between the physical body and the psychological type.
In any case it should not be treated as something wrong, sinful or illegal to avoid unnecessary legal complications. It is a small section that experiences homosexual or bisexual orientation. It is not something that the individual can consciously chose. It is how nature expresses itself in a person and as such it does no harm to anyone any more than heterosexual behavior can.
