AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

Over the years, my natural inclination to socialize has sharply declined, shifting entirely toward inner quiet, reading Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, and listening to your talks. 🌿🕊️📖🙏[…]

While I was once very outgoing, I now actively dread lengthy phone calls, rarely feel moved to reply to acquaintances’ messages, and end up carrying guilt that my silence appears rude or cold. I wonder if this growing withdrawal is merely an onset of tamas, anxiety, or subtle depression, or if it reflects an old ascetic tendency resurfacing. Given that I still live in the everyday social world, how should I understand and navigate this increasing urge for seclusion?

This is indeed a very good sign, one of the clear indications of being on the spiritual path. It is neither an ascetic tendency, nor tamas, but a beautiful inner process, the clear sign of a new birth. It is an inner initiation on the true spiritual path wherein one enters a deeper inner life and all that engaged us and held us back earlier begins to suddenly pale away. It is not withdrawal but a kind of release from the hard grip of the forces of ignorance that hold us back. There is nothing to feel guilty about it. Each one follows the inner promptings of one’s life and so it must be. In fact, it cannot be otherwise. Yes, some people would misunderstand, but the closest one’s will not only understand but respect your new need. They are the true friends.

You need to do nothing except receiving this new state as a Grace and using the energy that will be available now to read, meditate, write (a diary of prayers) with the sole purpose of connecting yourself more and more to Her.

Affectionately,

Alok Da

Dear Alok da, I would like to know more about Dutta who was Mother’s companion from Britain. Are there any books that write about her? Or can you tell me something about her? What did she represent?

Dutta also known as Ms Hodgson was The Mother’s friend since adolescence. She traveled with the Mother wherever She went and stayed in Pondicherry until leaving her body.

The name Dutta was given to her by Sri Aurobindo meaning ‘Offered one’.

She is indeed the one who was the first one to exclaim on the Siddhi day ‘The Lord has conquered death’ which…

Today, my parents were listening to a very popular Shiva Mahapuran Kathavachak. During the Katha, he mentioned that Lord Shiva is superior to Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma. The reason he gave was related to the position of their respective Shaktis.

This is even factually incorrect. Saraswati has been revered and worshipped since the Vedic Age. At that point she is not regarded as a consort of Brahma but as the goddess of Vak, the Word of creation. There is no Brahma but Brahmanaspati, or Brahaspati in the Vedic Age. Later Puranic legend shows Saraswati brought out from Brahma but it is she …

Namaste Alok Da. I want to learn about the Typal Beings. What are they, and when did the typal beings appear in the Involution or Creation process? Were they created after the 4 fallen Emanations (Consciousness or Light; Life; Love or Beatitude; and Truth), as the 4 Emanations fell, as the Mother took the plunge; or after creation and during the evolutionary process? 🌌⚔️✨🙏[…]

The typal beings are not evolutionary. They are fixed to type. The gods, the titans, the beings of the mid-worlds are all typal beings.

Creation began with the first four emanations (Sat-Chit-Tapas-Ananda). These are the four original aspects of the Divine. Each being an aspect of the Divine acted in complete freedom sharing the absoluteness of the Divine. But this very sense of absolute freedom led to their being ‘apparently separated’ from the Divine Origin. There could never be any real separation. But each perceived the sense of absolute power as if independent of the Origin…
