AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

My 8-year-old daughter wanted to understand the meaning of this quote by Sri Aurobindo. Can u please explain? The ideal Yogi is not a withdrawn and pent-up force, but ever engaged in doing good to all creatures, either by the flood of the divine energy that he pours on the world or by himself standing in the front of humanity, its leader in the march and the battle, but unbound by his works and superior to his personality. 🌼🙏🏻

It means that a yogi is not someone cut off from life and work and people. He engages with everything but in a new and different way. He has access to a greater divine knowledge, a truer divine love, a more intense divine power. He does not run away from life in some cave but works among men in whatever sphere he is called to work, including war and revolution or simply cooking and cleaning or writing and speaking. He does everything beautifully, powerfully, with an exceptional degree of spontaneous perfection. But he is not attached to anyone or anything; he is not doing these activities for praise, not happy when things happen favourably, nor depressed if things don’t work out. Such a yogi lives for God’s purpose in the world and not for any personal gain or advantage.  His only goal is to fulfil God’s Will in himself and in others.

Affectionately,

Alok Da

I am enjoying your talk on Krishna and the elegant way you weave the work of Sri Krishna into our very own Lord and the Mother. Although far from the Ashram, your words help ground me in my aspiration. If I may, I would like to add a small suggestion. 🌍🙏🏻[…]

Thank you for the kind and beautiful words. I fully understand your love for America. It is a good sign, the sign of patriotism which is itself Sattwic in nature. It is also true that an individual can experience and realise the Divine Presence anywhere and everywhere, in everything…
