AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

As you mentioned that instead of taking scriptures literally, one should understand their true essence, I have one final question in this regard: What is the true spiritual essence or underlying message behind the verse (12.13.13) that speaks of donating the Srimad Bhagavatam on a golden throne on Bhadrapada Purnima? 📖🪷🔍 […]

Thank you once again for your guidance and inspiration.

That is exactly what I am trying to tell you. If we take every verse of the Srimadabhagawatam as if it is originally said and hence to be practiced and followed literally, then we fall into the same trap as the Mullahs. Each Scripture has seen additions made by unscrupulous minds for vested personal interests. Srimadabhagawatam is no exception. Do you really believe that after all the beautiful uplifting things spoken of in the Srimadabhagawatam, the great Vedavyasa will advise people to donate it on a golden throne and get moksha? It means the super rich have a free pass regardless of their deeds! This verse, in fact the whole of the last chapter of the last Canto, is clearly an addition engineered by some ingenious mind with vested interest. The Srimadabhagawatam finishes beautifully with Canto Twelve, Chapter Twelve. We see the same problem with the Uttarkand in the Ramayana. These verses, including the one you mention about the golden throne donation, seem to be clearly of that character. That is why the Shastras say that we should accept the Vedas as final authority and if we find something that is not in tune with the Vedas, then it should be rejected.

Of course, one can always say that the golden throne means to arrive at spiritual royalty and donation means not just the book but its essence. So the meaning can be derived as this: that one who is full of a Sattwic nature  (golden throne) and then distributes the Prasad of Bhagawatam to the seekers without asking for anything (donating the Bhagawat) crosses the mortal sphere and arrives at perfect freedom.

You can take this meaning.

Affectionately,

Alok da

Hello sir. Since childhood, I have remained deprived of true love and real concern for me, even from my parents and siblings. Now, my married life has turned into a horrible situation. How to overcome such bitter experiences of life and become a true servant of the mother and Sri Aurobindo? 💗🌸🙏🏼

Take all this as a Grace. If you see closely the situations are actually serving the purpose of taking you closer and closer to your true destiny, the Divine. Those who are happy in the world as it is today are like souls in the kindergarten of life busy with toys and the basics. But when one is ready for the higher truth, then either one …

Namaste Sir. In one quote, the Mother has said: “Give up trying, give up the will to progress, give up the aspirations for realisation, give up everything and say to the lord in all sincerity, let thy will be done.” If we give up everything, what will make us to work and search for the divine? 🙏🏼🕊️✨

It is the penultimate stage of sadhana somewhat like Sri Krishna’s final injunction to Arjuna, sarvadharmanparityajya, to give up all Dharmas and take refuge in Him alone. Give up trying is not same as do not try. It means that one has tried, possibly tried hard but nothing much or at least decisive happened. It is then …
