AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

My partner enjoys eating non-veg, drinking, and partying, whereas I am the complete opposite—I prefer a quiet lifestyle, vegetarian food, and don’t like partying. We even tried to make the relationship work by agreeing that he could go to parties if he wanted, but he shouldn’t expect me to join. Despite our efforts to do our own things and tried to live in harmony, we still end up fighting so much. I’m not sure what to do🤨?

This is unlikely to work. The divergence and dissonance is too fundamental to be overlooked for life. Each doing their own thing is not harmony but adjustment. It doesn’t work well. True harmony is built on deep love and brings the joy of togetherness. Too many disparities leave little meeting ground and the togetherness becomes largely something mechanical or held by attachment that grows when people live together for long enough. But this is only a compromise and unless there are compelling social reasons or a child together it is better to walk away and each walk their own way.

Affectionately,

Alok Da
