AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

Many people have lost faith in ashrams due to past incidents involving fake spiritual leaders, fake babas, leading them to dismiss the entire path as meaningless. They also lack proper guidance in life, most were simply pushed into the cycle of studies, jobs, and earning money, and eventually got caught up in it all😡.

Question: Do you think the lack of genuine spiritual guidance and past negative experiences have made people disconnect from the deeper purpose of life?

Guru is a medium to connect us to the higher consciousness. The psychic being does the same for those who are developed. The Guru can give only that much which he has realised and that which the disciple aspires. The gurus however have their human parts as well and that is where problems often arise. Some people believe that physical closeness to the Guru matters and hence they try to get physically close either with the hope of more knowledge or else because they are drawn to the guru’s outer personality. This however often becomes counterproductive as one tends to get in contact with the human parts of the Guru that can lead to complications. The Guru is also often like a fire. It gives warmth and light from a distance but can scorch and burn if one gets too close as our nature’s inherent defects and weaknesses can show up and paradoxically, throw up doubts and resistances.

Best is to read books that open doors to spiritual wisdom and reflect and meditate upon their luminous words. Try to put into practice whatever little one understands and can. Pray to the Divine for guidance and help. He is everywhere and listens to everyone. If the seeking is sincere and the time comes, then the Divine will appear in the form of a human Guru if needed. The guru, the path and the goal are within. The human medium and the agency of the words can help, sometimes greatly but what matters in the end is faith and sincerity in the seeking.

Affectionately,

Alok Da
