But sir, in with our ignorant mind, we work towards fulfillment of our wishes and desires or needs, which is sometimes associated with our survival forget about luxury or affluence. Like – getting a decent job, a business which can fetch sufficient profit for survival, good harvest and getting adequate price of crops, a harmonious relationship with people around us etc.
To an ordinary person, these wishes hold paramount importance for living a decent material life. A person who is on the path of yoga and has complete faith in the mother knows that there is no guarantee that his wishes are going to be fulfilled by the divine; then fear is bound to creep in because, to his ignorant mind, his wishes are very important for him. Then it is very difficult to pursue the path of yoga fearlessly.
My question to you, sir: How to reconcile these two apparently contradictory statements by the mother, and pursue sadhana without any anxiety or fear?
There is no contradiction here. If a person is seeking these things and considers them more important than the Divine, if his mind lacks even the basic faith in the Divine Grace that what is needed will be provided if his aspiration is sincere, then such a person is not really on the Path of Yoga. He is perhaps preparing for the Path. He should, in such a case, put in genuine efforts to fulfil his desires (these are not needs) and pray to the Divine to help him in the process. Such a person will then go through the ordinary laws of life and experience the joys and sorrows of the world until he is ready to leave everything, if need be, for the higher life, and until, the Divine becomes his one true need, if not the sole need.
Affectionately,
Alok Da
