AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

Alok da, one Increasingly concerning trend that one’s observing in indian society right now is there’s a feverish tendency to get to inquiry one’s range of earning. The moment the so called elders meet a young man who’s just into two-three years of graduation, the very first question they ask is “What’s your Package?”. And these young men themselves are full of agitation in trying to increase their pay scale at a rapid manner so that they could meet the demands of the parents of the girls whom they want to marry.

This definitely seems to be a very much new phenomenon in Indian history and doesn’t seem to be a good sign. At one time indians had no flexible competitive spirit in terms of occupations cos they did what their fathers used to do by heredity, seems like Indians jumped from one extreme to the other where there’s brute darwinian competition all over in comparing each other salaries, brand of clothes, cars ,homes and what not. How does one safely navigate this Chaos one is seeing all around without being infected by it?

It is not Darwinism but copy-catism if one wants to coin a word. The reason however is twofold. Partly it is due to the strong awakening of Rajas in a society that was, for a rather long time oppressed, supressed and made to feel low, in one word tamas. This is a resurgence of excessive rajas which will sooner or later stabilise and, given the innate sattwic leanings rise towards Sattwic life after exhausting these long supressed tendencies. It is a kind of yoga of the nation going on whereby it is reckoning certain tendencies as in young people before it is ready for higher things, a bhoga before engaging in yoga. It is no doubt causing dissonance with those individuals who are ready for a higher spiritual life. But slowly this other kind, children with a higher spiritual aspiration are also increasing. It is just a question of time that this new type will increase and take over the charge of life as the Time Spirit is going to support them.

The other type is bit worrisome. It is a blind imitation of the Western model of life, with the excessive importance given to the material outlook of life, a chasing after more and more comforts, the almost excessive importance given to the material view of life. This type of imitative humanity given to luxury brands, parties to throw away money, with expensive alcohol and smoking as a sign of royalty is frightening. This humanity is foredoomed to failure. The Time-Spirit will wipe it off because the decree has gone forth from the Highest that artificiality and hypocrisy, pretension and falsehood has no place anymore.

In any case I am full of hope regardless of these types. A new consciousness is active upon earth and its impact is being felt on more and more persons, especially children. It is just a question of time before this latter type obsessed with cars and parties and perversities of taste and tendencies will be wiped away and the true, the good, the beautiful, a diviner higher humanity will be raised up and govern the earth. Wait for the last scene of the last Act of God.

Affectionately,

Alok Da
