AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

Being an employee and in Society, as a seeker of Integral Yoga of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, should we avoid going to marriages and other social events? 💒👥🤔🌸🦋

Social interactions are best avoided as they often lead to vital interchange during which one often loses much that is gained as a result of the Yoga. Besides, when one meets all kinds of people on the social ground, one absorbs, almost mechanically, often unconsciously, the general atmosphere that human beings carry around themselves. Hence, to a seeker on any path of yoga, these things such as parties, marriages, reunions of old friends, family gatherings, etc are best avoided. The collective life must change and evolve as the individual evolves. That was one of the ideas behind the formation of Sanghas and Ashrams so that the collective life is commensurate with the individual. However, it is not always possible to completely avoid such social events when one is living in the world. In such a case, it is best to practice inner equanimity and to stay away from all gossip and animated discussions. A general goodwill for all, while an ingathered state within, is the best way.

Affectionately,

Alok Da

Dada, I love reading discourses with disciples; how did some of them go away? To even share a glance with them is a Grace. When I came to this place, the people here are like, “Why are you worshipping them like God?!” Will you jump from the building if Sri Aurobindo tells you to? You yourself aren’t an evolved being; how will you represent their teachings? 💔😥🙏🏻🌼[…]

Faith is the starting point of any journey. When one says that one must question everything doesn’t it imply faith in one’s ability to find the answer to everything? Doesn’t it also imply faith in the ability of the human mind to find the answer through the use of the sceptical intellect? Faith is the starting point of every journey. Its end is knowledge. …

Q1. Is human suffering viewed by the Divine as ultimately illusionary and mainly evolutionary or corrective in nature? The mind, life, and body seem to suffer, while the psychic being assimilates experience for growth — as in Savitri, where the soul “drinks experience like a strengthening wine.” Is this broadly correct? 😊🙏🏻🌼🍂

Yes in a way. But that does not mean that the Divine is indifferent to our suffering. He knows it, knows its true cause and is offering the real cure. It is like a physician who empathises even when he gives a…
