AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

Bhaiya, I get easily irritated, especially when my mother compels or pressures me to do something that doesn’t come naturally to me. At times, I also feel the same way with other people who try to exert too much authority over me. I know I shouldn’t let this affect me, but it disturbs my peace of mind and takes me considerable time to recover 😥

The irritation is understandable because one feels compelled. The source of this compulsion is a conditioning that we need to conform to or do what others suggest lest they be displeased.

The remedy is to learn to walk alone and stop worrying about other’s opinion. Take your decisions, make your choices but no need of trying to convince anyone or argue with others. Tell them they may be right from their point of view but you have to walk your way.

After a while people understand and respect you for your integrity. Be firm but without irritation. Then you will be able to resist the pressure best.

At the same time give a patient hearing to everyone and see what they are saying rationally. Instead of accepting blindly or rejecting thoughtlessly take a moment to reflect with the help of reason and discernment and then decide. Getting irritated by what others say often indicates an inner acceptance and hence the feeling of compulsion.

Affectionately,

Alok Da

The three modes of nature are never aligned. If and when aligned, the Asuras die and the Self is liberated. To do that …

The Mother and Sri Aurobindo laughed at the stupidity of religous conversions. They saw Religion as a spent force which is destined to be overpassed by the growing spiritual impulse in man. The upsurge of conversions, whatever its temporary success is destined to fail. The evolving human soul cannot be satisfied for long in any …
