AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

I have one question. If Maa is doing everything, then what is my role? I prefer letting life unfold naturally rather than following a rigid blueprint, but the lack of a clear direction often leaves me feeling restless and scattered.🙏🧭 […]

Throughout my journey—from childhood Karate to Krishna devotion, Reiki, and now yoga after finishing my CA—I have always gravitated toward physical and spiritual disciplines. However, I struggle with consistency and keep shifting between different meditation techniques based on how I feel each day. How can I cultivate focus and ground my practice while still remaining open to life’s natural flow?

Sri Aurobindo and The Mother never asked anyone to believe that The Mother does everything. If that were the case, then the Mother would be responsible for all the crimes that humanity does!! Basically, there are two operating systems given to human beings. The first is ignorance or lower nature, where we are being trained and schooled and prepared for the higher. Here we make the choices and learn and grow through the consequences. Here the Prakriti is the teacher, while the Mother is like the parent who usually does not interfere unless there is a crisis.

When the soul has graduated through it, then the other operating system, the Divine Operating System, comes into play. Here there is a lot of freedom and flexibility, as the child soul, now grown into its adolescence, is directly under the supervision of the Divine Mother. It is only here that, as one surrenders, the Divine takes up more and more directly the work and the progress.

Techniques are not spiritual practices. Anything from work to walking of washing clothes can become spiritual if one does it with the true and right attitude of inner aspiration.

Most people drift, even those who remain stuck with the same things. Drifting is an inner shifting of focus, not changing the outer work. One may change jobs but always with the idea of making money. On the other hand, one may continue the same work, but the motive may shift from making money to serving the Divine. It is the goal, the motive that matters. It is the inner GPS. The paths matter little as long as one is clear about the goal.

Affectionately,

Alok Da

Pranam Sir. I want to ask about how to deal with negative anticipations, thoughts, and expectations in our daily life. One of my colleagues always targeting me and quarreling with me over each minor issue or mistake and even insults me in front of juniors. He is visually challenged. 🌿🕊️[…]

The best way is to completely ignore him, and if you cannot do so then remain inwardly totally indifferent to him. The best response to people who are hypercritical is complete indifference. The more you try to explain, the more they justify. The more you concede, the more they increase the criticism. But indifference completely flattens them…

What does the chant “OM SHANTI” truly signify—is peace merely the repetition of a sacred word, or a state to be deeply imbibed within the heart? We often define peace simply as the absence of external conflict, agitation, or turbulence, but this surface calmness is only temporary and amounts to nothing more than restraining turbulent emotions. What, then, constitutes real, unshakable inner peace, and how can one truly attain and sustain it? 🕉️🕊️

Peace is not an absence of disturbance. Even inertia is free from disturbance. Peace is something positive and powerful, a fundamental foundational status of the Divine, seemingly equal and non-reactive like Shiva bearing and upholding the dance of Kali upon his chest or the ocean holding its tremendous energy by its own power of self-limitation. maryada. It is a state of concentrated ingatheredness like the mountains or a vast Silence …

My sister is pregnant and has entered her ninth month. Because she has a low-lying placenta, the doctor has recommended a C-section and suggested dates around August 14th or 15th. When I learned about the dates, I suggested August 15th because it is Sri Aurobindo’s birthday. 👶🗓️[…]

Trying to find an auspicious date, hoping for a better future through the limited means given to man, stepping back from the first impulse and making rational choices are all part of human nature and hence natural. Medicine itself as well as technology and all else invented by the human mind is also natural in the sense that it is an extension of our mind that is given to us by Nature. Animal is driven by vital nature whereas man makes choices …
