AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

I have some questions about the psychology of the mind. What could be the possible reasons for unwanted and intrusive thoughts that suddenly pop up in the mind and can sometimes be very disturbing? Related to that, I have a question about OCD—what is it, and why does it happen😥?

Thoughts come from all around but those whose physical and mechanical mind is very active have a tendency to hold on to them and turn it over habitually.

What are the spiritual causes of these experiences, and what should one do about them?

One should try to be a witness to these thoughts separating oneself from this kind of mental activity.

One can divert the mind towards some useful activity.

One can forcefully reject the thought.

One can rise above the mechanical mind through meditation, reading beautiful things.

One can quieten this part of the mind through japa.

Do people on the spiritual path face these issues? If so, how can they tackle them?

These things come to certain people who are predisposed towards them. Other people face other issues and challenges. What is needed is to keep growing in aspiration and moving on the path regardless of whatever challenges come on the way.

Affectionately,

Alok Da

This is a resurgence of excessive rajas which will sooner or later stabilise and, given the …
