AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

I would like to share something strange I have noticed over the years. Sometimes when I look at certain people, they give me the impression of a particular animal. 👯‍♀️👥🙆‍♂️[…]

Something of it shows in their body language, behaviour and even in their faces. It is not just me who has noticed this, but also other people. I have been compared to a rabbit by many different people, even the elderly. I have heard that we live as animals before the human life begins, but I’m not sure if it has anything to do with it. I would like to understand if there is any truth behind this.

It is true that our body carries certain imprints of the animal consciousness within us. This does add to the shaping of the body because there is indeed a subtle correspondence between the form and the consciousness that inhabits it. Each animal corresponds to some quality that Nature tries to reproduce in the animal world through its forms.

It does not, however, mean that the person is like that animal. It simply means that perhaps, if the impression is correct, the person carries some characteristic trait of the animal. Rabbit, for example, indicates prudence.

Affectionately,

Alok Da

Alok Da, I wrote a reflection on a childhood memory of a ferocious storm where, amidst the thunder and scolding, catching a single raindrop opened me to a sudden, ecstatic realization: “The Lord is falling as rain.” Even without dramatic spiritual experiences in my daily sadhana, I find myself growing steadily calmer and far more at peace. 🌧️✨🙏[…]

It is powerful and cathartic. May the rain of Grace be upon you and fill you to the fill one day, drop by drop.

There are two ways of finding the Divine. One is to cut oneself off from all the various activities of the world in one’s seeking for the Divine. This is the narrow and shorter but one kind of extreme path. The other path is to find the Divine everywhere and in everything. It is a wider, more difficult but also more complete path. In this …

Can you please share with me: 1. Sri Aurobindo’s writings on His Parabrahman experience. 2. Some of His and Sri Maa’s Sadhanas as written/hinted by them. 🌌📚🙏

The writings are too many. There are also wonderful biographies you could read. My favourite is Rishabhchand’s Biography of Sri Aurobindo. There is an All India Magazine dedicated to his life titled ‘Footprints of God’. The two of my favourite  writings on Parabrahman are as below. ‘Parabrahman and Parapurusha..
