The Mother is always with us, but until we realise this truth, certain atmospheres and environments help us or hinder us in discovering this. The Relics centres are meant to facilitate our inner journey, as they are like powerhouses or charging stations for the aspirant.
They also can provide an opportunity to engage directly in the Mother’s Work, to serve Her in ways that are difficult to do in ordinary circumstances of life.
They provide a ground for the formation of Sangha, a collective life centered around the common Divine Ideal, thereby kindling and supporting the individual flame of aspiration when it is not yet strong enough. They feed the psychic fire, so to speak.
Most importantly, the Relics, being the physical ‘divya dehansa’ of Sri Aurobindo they help the progress of the sadhana in the physical and the body itself to participate in the process of Yoga.
Of course, not all Relics Centres live up to their purpose. Nothing can replace the need for inner sincerity, which is often wanting, but that is a different subject.
Affectionately,
Alok Da
