AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

I’m debating whether to take a gap year before medical school or not. Medical schools here currently consider students who are Green Card holders or US citizens. As of now, I don’t have a Green Card. We should have a Green Card somewhere around Feb 2027. 👨🏼‍⚕️🩺🎓[…]

☀️Option 1 (applying to medical school in 2026-entrance 2027):

* Going to medical school right after I graduate college in August  2027 will require me to apply now in May 2026.

* This will cause me to take a break from my research lab/job for the upcoming 4 months.

* And take a light course load at school so that I can study for the entrance exam in 4 months (requires intensive studying).

*  This will pause my two ongoing research projects and my ongoing manuscript writing.

Few medical schools say they may consider my application as long as I have a Green Card at the time of entry (which I probably will)

But many medical schools don’t or likely will not review my application since I am not in possession of a green card now.

Since I will have to pause my research and publications, my application won’t be as strong as it would with.

☀️Option 2 (applying to medical school in 2027- entrance in 2028):

* If I take a gap year, I will have more time to study.

* This will allow me to work in my research lab and go to my job during this time as well.

* *  I can continue two manuscripts and presentations without a break, having my publications ready by the time of my application, if I decide to apply next year.

* My application will definitely be stronger as I will also get a University recommendation next year, along with more volunteer hours.

* High chance that I will have a Green Card by the time I apply next year, so I can confidently apply.

☀️Reasons for hesitations for a gap year:

– I’m addicted to being around friends and peers. The thought of being left out in a working setting, such as a hospital, scares me.

– Despite the hurdles, option 1, I feel that, somehow, luckily, I might be able to directly get into medical school, which I never wanted to lose.

As I trust your care and concern for me, I request your help in choosing the right option…

It is always better to decide based on actuals rather than probables and possibilities. Also, it is important to keep the goal in the centre and not let other ancillary conditions

If you ask me, considering the details you have mentioned, it is best that you wait for one year, get your green card and then apply for the medical school in 2027.

Affectionately,

Alok Da

I want to know if The Mother refers to Sri Aurobindo as ‘Lord’? And so, when They say, the aim of life is to know the Divine and unite with It, do they mean to know the Lord and unite with Him? So, do we look to know Sri Aurobindo and The Mother as the Divine, and unite with Them by offering ourselves to Them integrally? I am curious how you understand this and practice this aim of Life. 😊🙏🏻🪷❤️‍🔥
