AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

In her prayer of May 17, 1914, Mother writes, “One day thou wilt be my head but for the moment turn thy gaze towards the earth.” When a disciple enquired what the phrase “thou wilt be my head” means, She answered that “The head is the original conceiving Consciousness. “Could you simplify the meaning of all this a little further for me? 📖😊🙏🏻🌼

Head is the hub that conceives whereas heart is the hub that impels towards action.

What the Mother seems to be experiencing here, in this prayer, is to withdraw from everything, including all action. She wants to be completely one with the pure Consciousness in its origin. But the command for her is not to do that for now. She has been assured that one day it will be so. One day, she will be completely identified with the original Consciousness, but for now, she must continue engaging with the earthly life. In simple terms, it is a call for the complete union through Karma rather than through withdrawal into the highest Gyana. It is the same path that Sri Aurobindo had taken, the complete union through Karma and later the fullness of the Supramental Gnosis.

Subsequently, the identification does take place on September 13, 1914.

Affectionately,

Alok Da
