I have actually given a couple of talks on this question that people raise based on Satprem’s personal comments in the Agenda which are often taken as gospel truth. No doubt Satprem has done an admirable job in printing the Agenda but we should not forget that The Mother herself did not want the entire Agenda to be published! In fact She mentions at a few places that we better not publish it. But Satprem went ahead and published it! That gives us a little hint about his rebel personality that saw everything from purely personal point of view and interpreted the actions of others as if deliberately against him and hence against truth. His subsequent writings, except for The Adventure of Consciousness (though here too he adds dark postscript later after the Mother’s withdrawal) carry the same ringtone of a high and subtle intellect, an arrow like aspiration and burning love for the Mother but also a sense of superiority, a lack of wideness and compassion, a tendency to look down upon others as inferiors creating a strange paradox. The Mother of course had called all types near Her for various purposes we need not discuss here.
But coming to the querry you have raised, well Satprem was not allowed to visit The Mother after May 19, 1973. So all the rest that happened or would have happened is his hypothesis to say the least.
There are other accounts, that of Nolini da, Pranab da, Andre da. In fact Andre da clearly mentions that The Mother had completed the work, as far as was possible in the body, in May itself. She was tying up the last knots during the last six months. In any case, after the physical withdrawal, all those who were serving Her faithfully since decades, much before Satprem came in to record, were near Her and waited as long as they could. But in their intutive sense guided them to do what they did (all this is there in my talks). My simple take is that neither Satprem nor the other disciples could fathom Her profound Will in this regard, the deepest lila, so to say. All that one can say is that if things happened the way they did, surely The Mother wanted it that way. All that could be done was done and all that is needed to be done for humanity to progress towards the New Creation will be done, is being done. What we should be careful about is not to divide the community of seekers as Satprem and few others ended up doing in the name of The Mother and Her Work. It is the handiwork of the Asura to so divide and which has led to endless conflicts between groups of seekers with earlier divine advents as well. Let us be united in our common aspiration and the great goal for which The Mother and Sri Aurobindo sacrificed so much and practice the yoga with glad and sincere heart.
Affectionately
Alok Da
