The ascent of the physical consciousness can lead to the discovery of the consciousness of immortality. It does not transform the body. For that it has to ascend still further to the supramental and more importantly receive the supramental descent and the consequent transformation of the physical body into the divine body. This is quite a different matter. The consciousness of immortality means that one does not pass through the process of death when the gross physical body drops off. One is conscious of oneself not only spiritually but also as a mental personality and a physical being. But the nature of the body, mind, heart and life remain fundamentally the same.
