AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

One of my grandmothers is growing old and frail she is almost bed ridden cannot get out of her room and is 92 years, I pray that she may be freed from this body that has become a burden and reason for pain, is this a selfish prayer? Can one pray for a loved ones death😪? What is the best approach in times like these ?

Many prayers are for selfish reasons so that itself does not make a prayer meaningless. But this prayer for someone’s departure at the person’s presumed suffering is an ignorant prayer which may not be granted, especially if it is for someone else. It is ignorant because we presume suffering is necessarily bad and bodily condition is the only thing that matters. In most people the body tends to have some problem or the other as it grows old. That does not mean one should die. Rather it means that instead of being focused on the body, one should focus more on the spiritual side that is often ignored and neglected.

Best thing to do when there is an old person in the house is to talk to them, give them the love and care they deserve and, even if one cannot do this, read out or play some beautiful spiritual writings, thoughts, music, mantras so that they are surrounded by a spiritual atmosphere. Rest is in God’s hands and their destiny which compels us to go through many things we may not like which, yet serve their purpose.

Affectionately,

Alok Da

Thank you, Alok da, for answering my question from yesterday on a passage of the Synthesis of Yoga. However, I would like to clarify one specific point based on the understanding I shared earlier. Let me take a hypothetical example. Suppose, for a particular individual, the Divine Intention/Will is that he should go through a life of considerable struggle. ❤️‍🔥😊🙏🏻🌼[…]

I understand the difficulty. The Vedas speak of basically two operating systems to which we are subject. The first is when we are being schooled in Ignorance, Avidya. Then we operate through the ego which is actually like a shell within which our true soul is developing from its seed state to a realised divinity. During this phase we are given a…

Mother had a vision of Nagas guarding wealth. Who are these people? Where do they live? Mother asked him, “Will you allow me to enter?” He was guarding so much wealth. She described him as tall and stunning, but he said, “If I allow you, they will kill me. You have to first control the sex instinct among human beings. What is this?” 💎🪙💎🐍[…]

The Gita speaks of the struggle between the forces of the daivi order and the asuric type. Yes, eventually the Divine Will prevails and wins the victory, but before that the struggle and the conflict are there. …

This question is connected to my own sincerity. I find myself in situations where I have to compromise my sincerity and integrity and speak lies for the sake of maintaining my relationships with my friends. I can’t break the relations. But it becomes very hard and extremely difficult for me to be in a situation that needs sincerity and integrity both for me and my friends. 🥀😥❤️‍🩹🫂[…]

Sincerity is a most rare and difficult quality to acquire. Besides it is in relation to the Divine that we must grow sincere. What you mean probably is honesty with regard to friends. If …
