AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER

“Only were safe who kept God in their hearts: Courage their armour, faith their sword, they must walk, The hand ready to smite, the eye to scout, Casting a javelin regard in front, Heroes and soldiers of the army of light.” 🛡️⚔️✨ […]

We believe God is there in everyone’s heart. Which type of courage and which type of faith is Sri Aurobindo talking about and what to smite and what to scout?

These lines specifically refer to the attacks by the forces of falsehood to which the sadhaks are prone during certain critical phases of the spiritual journey. Here, in the lines above, Sri Aurobindo is describing to us the secret of going through these dangerous phases safely.

God is there in everything and everyone. But we are not conscious of His Presence. The first rule of safety is that one must become conscious of the Divine Presence in the heart and remember and refer everything to the Divine Presence within.

The second thing is to have courage and faith. It means never to allow any fear; to be fearless. And the source of this fearlessness is faith and the will to move forward regardless of the obstacles. Courage is the aspiration that keeps us moving forward. It is ready to face everything without shrinking. Faith is the light that helps us advance even when all around is darkness. Hence, it is likened to the sword that probes and keeps helping us advance forward.

We are also asked to be vigilant. That is what is meant by casting a javelin regard in front. A javelin can be thrown far ahead of the person. This is the vigilance demanded of us in the journey, the vigilance to detect falsehood before it enmeshes us, and never to be afraid before anything. To face everything with the sword of faith and the armour of courage. This is the path of the hero, of the deva or godlike humanity, of the children and soldiers of the army of light.

Hope it is clear now.

Love,

Alok da

I believe that reading The Secret of the Vedas by Sri Aurobindo gives us the real insight into the meaning of the Vedas and nothing more is needed for spiritual practitioners or for those who are looking to gain genuine spiritual insights. 📚🕉️[…]

The Secret of the Vedas was my first book too along with The Synthesis of Yoga. While it is no doubt a precious treasure (I had felt floating on cloud nine while reading it), it is certainly not enough for the Integral Yoga. Besides, apart from the conceptual understanding, the actual details of the practice for today’s practitioners is …

How to be happy irrespective of anything? 🌻💛

Now that is the most legitimate question. The answer is surprisingly simple. Contrary to some pessimistic philosophies, joy is the very nature of life. Suffering comes as an interruption to this natural joy. The interruption takes place when the mind enters into a mode of restless want, of various hungers. The more these apparent vital …
