Anything that is imposed from outside without a commensurate inner change tends to degenerate sooner or later. It is what happened to the fourfold order and it is what we see happening to the idea of freedom. True liberty comes by a mastery over nature. Without this mastery we are pushed by nature in a thousand ways. Even the choices we make are driven by forces of all kinds that enter through doors of unconsciousness, often in a garb of high virtues. Thus liberty is distorted to mean licentiousness.
The true solution can only come through a permanent change of consciousness so that we spontaneously live by the Divine Truth within. Momentary glimpses of higher states of consciousness are not enough. The change should be radical and permanent that would make it impossible for man to deviate or distort the spontaneous manifestation of the Truth in us.
