They are different aspects of the same Krishna, like different aspects of the same Shiva. Hanuman ji, for example, embodied the Rudra aspect of Shiva and not the Asutosh, Nataraja, or Nilkanth. So also, the Krishna who appeared before Sri Aurobindo was the Kurukshetra aspect of him. This does not mean the Krishna of Vrindavan is someone else.
Besides, the images of Sri Krishna Lila as a child in Vrindavan seem more symbolic with a mystic meaning in them. For example, the flute, peacock feather, Raas and the gopis are intimately connected with profound mystic symbols, which Sri Aurobindo mentions at several places. But the personality of Sri Krishna that he embodied was the Kurukshetra and the Gita’s Yogayogeshwara.
