The karma of destiny and the store of accumulated karma. It will take indefinite time to settle it. The sanskars of karma, the pattern of old habits are an obstacle and hindrance in our progress. Intellectually we can understand the scriptures, religion, spirituality, but due to the greater influence of rajas and tamas, I go back to the old pattern. What are the views of Shri Aurobindo, Shri Mataji on accumulated karma? Can we be completely free from accumulated karma in this very birth?πŸ”„πŸŒ±πŸŒΎπŸ›ž

I have adopted the system of abhipsa, surrender and renunciation; I am gradually progressing on this path. The scriptures say that the elimination and liberation of accumulated karma is absolutely necessary; only after that can one progress in spirituality be made. Can accumulated karma be eliminated by surrender and abhipsa? On this point, Shri Mataji, please guide you in the light of the views of Shri Aurobindo.

Yes this is what is said in some scriptures. The Sanchit karma are the accumulated energy of our past actions. They are the imprints stored somewhere within us that we carry as baggage.  Prarabdha is a selection from this accumulated store that we have to exhaust through experiences in this life. Though the mind gives positive and negative value to these experiences because of ignorance, they are simply a mechanism to learn and grow through the consequences. Finally the kriyaman are the fresh karmas of this life that goes into our Sanchit store eventually.

On the face of it this looks a harsh law of reward and punishment. But if we look closely it is simply a law of evolution through which the soul develops from its seed state to the tree of divine consciousness by the process of consequences and learning. It is like a child going from class to class. Same way we move from life to life, learning through the process. Once the soul has completed this primary schooling in ignorance, then the rest of Sanchit karma automatically drop off except some rare utkat karmas such as suicide and homicide. That is how the Brahmavaivarta Purana describes it.

By knowledge (true knowledge or Vidya) the Sanchit karmas automatically drop off except the Prarabdha of this life.

Then, by practicing desireless or nishkama karma, action without attachment to the fruits or results, the kriyaman karmas are not created. It is so because karmic imprints are created through attachment (moha) not by action itself.

Finally the Divine Grace can completely including the Utkata karma.

This is the truth of the law of karma which is an inbuilt schooling process as we move from ignorance to knowledge, from darkness to light.

Affectionately

I’m curious to know what place Sri Aurobindo would have given to Personality Classifications like Myers-Briggs, Socionics, etc. I understand that he spoke of psychoanalysis as an incomplete and partially ignorant tool of understanding the mind. πŸ“–πŸ§‘β€πŸ€“πŸ“š[…]

There was a time, long back, when I read many of these things. Found all of them not only grossly inadequate and limited but also missing the core of human nature, the person behind the personality. It is very much like the story of blind men searching for the elephant in the room and drawing their own conclusions about what the elephant likely is.

If a person is elevating their consciousness and developing themselves into a new consciousness, what about those who have already attained Liberation (Mukti) and have become one with the Supreme Being? Identifying with the Supreme Being is rare. What is generally called as Mukti is departing from the cycle of birth and death into a state of Silence or Nirvana and then merging or losing all one’s individual truth that the….

Sir, the main problem with depressive medicines is that they make the body and mind always sleepy, dull and lethargic. To be honest, I don’t actually know as to how and where to progress on the Spiritual path and in Studies. Even the simplest of things, I am finding it difficult to face off. Really don’t know what to do ahead.πŸŒ§οΈπŸ§‘β€βš•οΈπŸ’ŠπŸ«

This was true of earlier medicines. But now there are much safer medicines with fewer side effects if any especially of drowsiness. There is nothing wrong in taking them and bounce back on your feet in a few weeks at …
