Agni in the Vedas is the leader of the human march. It represents the Divine Will and Wisdom that has built the worlds and hence is the knower of all births, Jatavedas.
The psychic being in man is in contact with the Divine Presence within. It is therefore through the psychic being that one can know the Divine Will and Wisdom. The psychic being is therefore often represented as the flame of the same Divine Fire, the Shubhra Jyoti. Since it is the upholder of the Divine Will, in direct contact with it, therefore it is the priest of the sacrifice, agnirhotaram, who offers all into the Divine Fire so that all may become pure, refined, divine.
