Aghoris literally means one who is free from all fear. That does not mean extreme measures as some of the ascetic aghoris undertake. Freedom from fear comes by union with the Divine by whatever means. But Aghoris take to the extreme path of facing the situations that induce fears, such as living in cremation grounds and being around dead bodies, which is a needless extreme. Such practices may work for a rare genuine seeker, but most would simply become a prey of the occult forces they try to master, semi-possessed by the elemental energies that gather around the dust of Shiva’s Feet.
