Music, if pursued to its core can become a very good means to develop deeper and higher states of consciousness in us. It is a sadhana in its own right. Music comes from a very high source and true musicians can catch the strains as they flow towards the earth in rhythms and metres from the higher worlds. Here is what the Mother writes about it.
