AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER

In the Savitri Study Circle on Sundays, we are reading Book 10: The Book of the Double Twilight. I would like to understand wider and deeper what is meant with the DOUBLE Twilight?📜🕊️🤍♾️

The twilight are the zones through which the human soul passes after death. Here, in Savitri, Sri Aurobindo uses it as a powerful symbol describing the domains on which the influence of Death is seen.

The first twilight is the twilight where the dawn emerges. It is the twilight created as the darkness begins to melt in the emerging sunlight. It symbolises the influence of the gods who awaken the human consciousness from its state of dense ignorance towards higher possibilities.

The second twilight is where the light brought by the sun is fading away into the growing darkness of the Night. It is the state that discourages man from all higher effort as if it were condemned to doom.

The first twilight is where the light of the heavens leans towards the earth. The second is where having touched the earth it gets swallowed by the darkness and ignorance of earth nature.
