AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

This new-age concept of detachment – how valid is it? Does it work? Sincerity of effort is more important, right, than jumping from one thing to the other. As you said, nothing is perfect. Had to be made so. Then why so much stress on it?ย  ๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ […]

Also, a few people I met at Isha – foreigners – somehow I feel they think they are highly spiritual without understanding our cultural background and implications. They will take some drugs or do shamanism and think, oh, so cool. They don’t get certain things that are ingrained in our soul.ย

A certain degree of inner detachment gives us a vantage point in terms of taking decisions. It also blunts the reactions of pleasure and pain when they arise as a result of situations and circumstances. In other words, the practice of inner detachment gives us an inner freedom that helps us navigate through life with minimum friction and pain. It also helps us stay focused on our goal because the mind and the vital are less reactive and disturbed. Truth finds it easier to manifest in a calm and peaceful mind and a vital freed from desires, which detachment brings about.

Affectionately,

Alok Da

Certainly the Hindus knew the various means of purifying the mind and intelligence and, during the heydays of ancient India, the Vedic period and even much later, they did turn it both inwards and outwards. That is how they discovered such wonderful things which included plastic surgery, an elaborate pharmacopeia, warcraft and deadly weapons, principles of politics and administration, rules of mathematics and chemistry, linguistics and …

Sir, is whatever happens with us is always for our best? ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐ŸŒผ

The Mother has given a very beautiful and complete answer to this.

‘Is it really the best that always happens?… It is clear that all that has happened had to happen: it could not be otherwiseโ€”by the universal determinism it had to happen. But we can say so only after it has happened, not before. For the problem of the very best that can happen is an individual problem, whether the individual be a nation or a single human being; and all depends upon the personal attitude. If, in the presence of circumstances…
