From the time of its first appearance, the Gita has had an immense spiritual action; but with the new interpretation that Sri Aurobindo has given to it, its influence has increased considerably and has become decisive. (CWM, PG.63.)
The Gita as it is takes us to the doors of the Supermind, even seems to knock at it in couple of places but does not actually open it for us. The vision of the One Divine everywhere mentioned hurriedly and passingly, the integral union of Karma, bhakti and Jnana, the hint at the collective march of mankind, the vision of the Time Spirit, the great and powerful closing remarks about the complete surrender, going beyond the three gunas, the possibility of complete union with the Divine while in the world are a few of the hints that Sri Aurobindo develops in the Essays on the Gita through which he opens the doors towards the Supramental Yoga. It comes across most powerfully in the last chapter, where one can clearly see as if it is Sri Krishna going beyond himself and revealing truths that are at best hinted but not developed in the Gita. It is this supramental touch that Sri Aurobindo gives to the Gita that opens new doors to the future and by doing increases its action and spiritual relevance even more, much more.
